Is what it is. We used to see these all the time in the pawn shops back in the late 80's early 90's and as guitar players we loved the fact that you could get them cheap. This one has the original 15" speaker which man has to be pushing 60 years old. the head comes out and must have a speaker cable (I think this is a mod from the original). There is a number stamped in the body under the pick guard that has a 65 in so that??s about all I know. Replacement vintage Fane speaker - actually sounds very good in this amp despite looking somewhat out of place! It??s not original hence the lower price. The poor man's Deluxe? Not really! The Silvertone is a budget 15 watt amp, built by Danelectro for Sears to sell through their catalogues. They feature a lightweight case of MDF-type material, no chassis to speak of, point-to-point wiring, and a puny looking 12" speaker. That said they represent sixties US garage rock with a sound of their own, and a great tremolo. I've dated this one to 1967 by the speaker code

A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
