Vintage guitars for sale: Silvertone

Kay or Silvertone silver electric guitar knobs made by Dakaware from the 1960s or possibly late 1950s. Pair of plastic knobs in a silver finish. They were made in Chicago by Dakaware. These knobs have set screws which work correctly. They are a silver finish with some of cosmetic wear from being used on a guitar for nearly 60 years. They may have also been on some Supro guitars from the same time period. These have a small line at the top to indicate the position

I got this one from the original owner who used it for a year or two than put it away until last month. Its really about as clean as it could be. All three pickups work well, all controls work well. Even with just a minor cleaning it shines, im sure with a detailed cleaning it could be near mint. Very few dings if any, its kinda amazing in person how clean it is, the pics dont do it justice. But it was made by the late great Kay Musical Instrument Company sometime prior to 1968 (when Kay folded). The inside label identifies it as a Silvertone Classic guitar, made for nylon strings only

This Vintage Harmony Silvertone Flat Top is a Classic from the 1970's. Made in Chicago, Illinois USA it's 50+ year old wood has a really nice tone. Silvertone (Sears) 45 singles record case / holder circa 1965. The record case came with a Silvertone 1478 guitar as kit when new. Unfortunately we split up the package many years ago. This was a nice accessory to the guitar for carrying around your 45 records. It shows its 60-ish years worth of wear. There must have been a sticker on the front at some point because the residue is still there. Complete wiring harness from a 1960's Silver-tone SG copy. Could also be used as is in 335 type guitars, (semi-hollow), or any that has the entire electronics located in a similar location

I found this little gem in a charity shop ages ago and have enjoyed it since. It plays really nicely and holds tuning well. Since buying it, I've removed the neck and added washers beneath the screws and adjusted the bridge position (shifted it backwards a tiny bit) to improve the intonation. All electrics are fully functional and the pick ups have the lovely sound that comes with these old catalogue guitars. The whammy bar is particularly cute.... more

The poor man's Deluxe? Not really! The Silvertone is a budget 15 watt amp, built by Danelectro for Sears to sell through their catalogues. They feature a lightweight case of MDF-type material, no chassis to speak of, point-to-point wiring, and a puny looking 12" speaker. A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
