This is a cool vintage 1969 Hofner 490 12-string guitar w / a Spruce top, curly maple back and sides. Rosewood fingerboard, jumbo round-shoulder neck. It has a large, round-shouldered body and a long 64 5 cm scale. It is very deep, considerably wider at the sides than other models. This was the last year these jumbo-sized bodies were built. This was the 40th Hofner Committee to be imported into the UK (serial number 2040) the body is pencil dated 20 10 1953. It has been confirmed as being either a late 1953 or early 1954 import.
Sadly this was part of my dad??s proud collection but unfortunately I??m a left halthough a tough decision, it would be a shame for me to keep it, especially as it is a very playable guitar with great action and tone. For 60 years of age it is in remarkable condition. There are some scratches, in fact quite a few all around the body. Cosmetic and with the nicely darkened laquer they give the instrnent this wonderfull patina. Around the side srew of the pick guard is a little touched up area and on the backside bottom edge where the ornamentel inlay ends is a tiny patch of dopped out laquer. So I bought this a few years back . Mostly as a stage prop for a show . I??ve loved having it sitting around the house and it??s got an incredibly low action. I am a player so I can tell you this Guitar is very playable. Currently set up with 10s and they are a bit too lite for it. Would benefit from 11 or 12s to bring more volume and tone out of it, and also raise the action up a bit which is super low at the minute . been told it??s a 1965 > ?66?? model .
Nice example of an old guitar , some slight wear to top, missing a few tiny screws on string compensator and truss rod cover .
Only one strap toggle .
Neck has slight relief , low action .
Not turned truss rod as I don??t have the correct tool .
New adagio strings , copper wound 10-47 .

All original and in amazing condition. Please take into account, it is a very old instrument, so it has a some blemishes and signs of use and age, like lines on the lacquer at the wood joints
A previous owner installed green fretboard side markers, and sanded around them a bit (check the pictures).

Beautiful playing, looking and sounding guitar from the era of lightweight, handcrafted guitars
This is resonant, light, has a lot of projection and a superb action
The downside are a few dings over the last 70 years and a previous owner replaced the tuners for some reason
