This is a cool vintage 1969 Hofner 490 12-string guitar w / a Spruce top, curly maple back and sides. Rosewood fingerboard, jumbo round-shoulder neck. It has a large, round-shouldered body and a long 64 5 cm scale. It is very deep, considerably wider at the sides than other models. This was the last year these jumbo-sized bodies were built. Hofner Senator Neck 1953. This neck has been taken from a very old Senator, where the body was in very bad shape and can not be retrieved from death row. Its a great shame, as according to experts like the Steve Russel Hofner site, indicates that this guitar could have been one of the first to be imported by Selmer. 1963 Hofner Senator Guitar in Blonde. Semi refurbished. Head stock was, as shown in one of the pics, in terrible state, so I made another head stock plate with Ebony and made new MOP inserts. (not pro but OK, and better than was ) I Made a scratch plate from some 50's plastic material, which works well. So I bought this a few years back . Mostly as a stage prop for a show . I??ve loved having it sitting around the house and it??s got an incredibly low action. I am a player so I can tell you this Guitar is very playable. Currently set up with 10s and they are a bit too lite for it. Would benefit from 11 or 12s to bring more volume and tone out of it, and also raise the action up a bit which is super low at the minute . Up for sale is my beloved 1959 Hofner Senator. It's a gorgeous archtop guitar with wonderful tone and resonance. In the 50s, Hofner, Gretsch and Gibson reigned supreme in the Archtop / Jazz guitar space
The Senator is the slightly larger-bodied version of the parlour Jazz guitar, the Congress
The guitar is in fantastic condition for one of this age, and plays like a dream. The only damage is to the name badge, which is partly missing (see pictures)
