I have been told this Kay model 72 was made between 1952-57. It is in great cosmetic and playable condition. No repairs done or needed. Action is great, neck set is solid, frets and fret board also great very few cosmetic issues. Some minor dents but nothing thru the finish. There is some finish wear from the first to third frets on the side if the neck. I??ve owned a dozen of these when I had a store but I??ve never personally seen one in this great condition. Vintage Kay Speed Demon Guitar Neck. Neck is "TRUETONE" branded which is Western Auto. Neck is pretty straight by Vintage Kay standards. I got the truss rod nut to screw in and out a little but the adjustment nut is in terrible condition and will need to be replaced (it's almost impossible to get a socket on it). Up for sale is a vintage set of Kay electric guitar tuning pegs. They were removed from a 1965 Truetone 302 but are correct for most Kay and Old Kraftsman guitars that use 6 on a side tuners. 1960's Kay concert style acoustic guitar. It is being sold as a luthier project at this time.
What puzzles me about this guitar is it says made in USA inside but it has a made in Japan tailpiece
Tuning keys and a bridge are not included.
The fretboard is buldging from the 12th fret to the end of it. The top of the body is caving in ever so slightly. Selling "as is " , untested and with any and all flaws you might find. I do not accept returns.

Nice condition, all original and working as it should. I would say the only downside is that the tremolo arm gets loose rather easily, but it??s not that bad. If I missed any negative detail apart from the one I??ve mentioned, remember: it is used, and it is a vintage low cost instrument, so beware if you never owned one of these before.

A great guitar for anyone starting out

It's well used but it does have life in it for someone to start or even if you fancy a bit of like a restoration / design project to have a go at.

Great for a youngster or yourself to start without breaking the bank.

Im not convinced on the strings. I think someone has fitted electric ones and i can really tell if its supposed to be steel string or nylon. ... more

Old Kay bass does seem to work ok and as you can see it??s pretty beat up so you might want to give it some tlc , please have a good look at the many photos as the condition and if your happy buy it and i will even post it to your home address, but I will not post to Argos or the like as they often refuse large parcels. Wow what a bargain.... more

A great looking lot
A vintage guitar made by Kay, with fabulous decorative bat wing style scratch plate. I believe these were made in the 60s
I got this 'as is' without strings, so not been able to test it with strings. Some of the white hoops / rings on the front of the tuning heads are missing. May have other issues not spotted. Some wear / tarnish in places. Sold as a project guitar and as spares / repairs

We bought this 12-string as a restoration "project" several years ago, but still haven't had time to get it fixed up and working. We're now downsizing, and need to find a new home for this guitar. The overall condition is really good, in terms of the body and structure - it just needs re-stringing and probably re-fretting. This is lovely. I??m absolutely in love with the look of it. It does play but will need a little love to get it really good. The electrics work but there is a buzz which is cured completely when you touch the jack. I??ve checked and there??s no earth to the strings so that will fix it, no doubt. I??ve not tried setting it up, the truss rod is free and the bridge adjusts just fine. Vintage 1960s Teisco pickup, made in Japan and taken from a Kay 'K' branded guitar , other parts in my other listings. This pickup came from the bridge position but I think it would suit any position with this type of pickup

Update: does not include truss rod cover as that was sold separately
Kay KB-24 bass neck, maple. The truss rod is threaded so it's beyond me to adjust but you might have the tools / ability to deal with it. It has a pretty significant back bow hence the truss rod being a problem. Otherwise in reasonable shape. One of the tuning pegs is a little bent but it all tunes up and hold tune OK. Frets aren't looking too bad, need a clean up to remove some corrosion but otherwise not bad. Needs some ... more

Kay K1160 parlour, made in USA around 1966, sunburst. These old Kay instruments are super cute, and they certainly have a bit of midcentury swagger. This one is a pretty simple parlour style acoustic, with a snazzy sunburst finish and a musical note stencil where you might usually get a pickguard. It's got a snarly, bluesy voice that's fun for fingerstyle stuff especially, although it strums well. A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
