This is lovely. I??m absolutely in love with the look of it. It does play but will need a little love to get it really good. The electrics work but there is a buzz which is cured completely when you touch the jack. I??ve checked and there??s no earth to the strings so that will fix it, no doubt. I??ve not tried setting it up, the truss rod is free and the bridge adjusts just fine. Kay K1160 parlour, made in USA around 1966, sunburst. These old Kay instruments are super cute, and they certainly have a bit of midcentury swagger. This one is a pretty simple parlour style acoustic, with a snazzy sunburst finish and a musical note stencil where you might usually get a pickguard. It's got a snarly, bluesy voice that's fun for fingerstyle stuff especially, although it strums well. A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
I have given the neck a partial respray using nitrocellulose lacquer and replaced the headstock ... more
