I bought this guitar around 1982. I played it in the high school marching band. It is a marvelous instrument that has always deserved a better player than myself. That being said, my only consolation in letting it go is that whoever owns it next plays the hell out it. Very good condition 1976 Gibson Ripper Fretless in Ebony. No breaks. Model 1 and Model J pickups. Everything else is original. This one has seen some gigging as shown by the decent buckle rash on the back, but is still in very good shape. Tuners work great, and these pickups have a very nice snarl to them. All electronics work perfectly. One small hole added as pictured on the back of the bass, maybe for a strap button at one point. This bass guitar is the prototype for the L6-S bass, a model that was never manufactured by Gibson. Although it is the prototype for an instrument that was not produced, it also seems to be a prototype of the Ripper and Grabber models introduced later that are constructed with the same materials (maple neck and body) and similar dimensions. For sale is my 1976 Gibson L9-s Ripper, owned for about 6 years, recorded regularly and gigged approximately 3 times. Selling due to downsizing. NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE. The last time I "sold" this on Reverb, the person didn't turn up to collect.
