Surprisingly clean example of a '60s (or '70s?) Japanese viola bass. The action gets high as you go up the fretboard despite the saddles being bottomed out. Neck looks straight. I gave the truss a little turn in each direction but was wary of going too far. Not sure whether it needs a neck reset, shim, or to just have the bridge filed down. Frets are excellent. Electronics are clean. There are some paint chips in the pickup rings, but otherwise it's cosmetically great. Wondering if the V / T ... view on ebay

This is a nice Hofner copy of the Beatle Bass Paul used. We believe it to be a Univox or Teisco 1960's. Electronics all work however the tone just has a little static noise when you turn it volume works great and so does the tone other than that drop of static while turning (probably a very good electronics cleaning is in order). There are a few extra screw holes in the headstock some shown in pics. There is a ding on the fingerboard shown in pics at the 4th fret. Selling as is with the ... view on ebay

1961 Hofner 500 / 5 bass. Sadly I need to sell some stuff and I rarely play it now Not the original control plate (it was missing). The way it's wired at the moment is volume, tone and the mini switch is a pickup selector. I think originally the bass may have been a different colour. I had it refretted and the fingerboard reshaped (to make it playable) when I bought it in the early 90's It has a fabulous old-school thumpy sound - somewhere between a double bass and an electric. Hofner 500 / 5 bass. Made in Germany in the 60??s
The 500 / 5 usually has 2 pickups, but this rare version seems to have only one. It says model is 500 / 5 on the label.
This model is quite expensive, but this bass in particular has been through some work, so it??s far from original:
- the wooden bridge is a replacement (and its a guitar bridge, not bass, but does the job)
- the tuners were replaced at some point, it has 70??s Japanese tuners instead
