This 1953 Gibson L-5CN is one of just four shipped by Gibson that year. At the time this was the top of the line, most expensive 17-inch archtop made by Gibson, due to the cutaway and the necessity for the absolute best woods because of the natural finish. Early- to mid-1950s Kay K-22 jumbo flat top acoustic. Solid spruce top, with back and sides of laminated mahogany. Ladder braced. Bridge was totally mangled (brass bolts / nuts had started to pull up from excess tension) but replaced with an NOS Kay bridge from the same era. Slight and stable risen areas on the top behind the anchor bolts, but I contoured the new bridge over these for better fit. Very minor. I also enhanced the scarfed-up area of the top under the bridge for better glue hold. ... more

The Zephyr Deluxe Regent blonde was the Epiphone competitor to the Gibson L-5 CESN. This one comes fitted with the original NY Tone Spectrum single coil pickups (bridge rewound by Kent Armstrong). It also has the cloud fretboard inlays which is the original design used for the Epiphone Deluxe, in contrast to many Deluxe Regents from this era that have the Emperor split block inlays. Here is a 1953 Rivoli mandolin (sn. 65982). Right now in Felix Wiedler's Unofficial New York Epiphone Registry database, there are only 27 Rivoli listed. That is amazingly few, given that the Rivoli was listed in every Epiphone catalog from 1932-1954! Btw, if you like pre-Gibson Epiphones, I cannot recommend Felix's website highly enough! This is a very hard to find mid 1950s Kluson No Line tuner correct for a Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster and Esquire among other possible guitars which the buyer can research to determine if correct for their needs. Please research but from what I've seen they were used for Fender guitars from around 1953 to mid 1956, but again do you own research.
