Vintage guitars for sale: Martin

This 1988 Martin D-16M belonged to Bobby Whitlock, keyboardist and singer in Derek and the Dominoes. I took it in partial trade for work I did for him years ago when we both lived in Austin. I took the fretboard from this guitar which had some custom inlay and put it on his D-35, which is where this fretboard came from (cool side story: his D-35 was picked out for him by his bandmates Eric and Duane). As noted in the clip from the Gruhn-Carter Guide above, Martin acquired Vega banjos in 1970 and eventually made them in Nazareth, PA until 1979. Martin production records indicate that after Martin moved production to Nazareth, PA in 1972, they started using serial numbers #2 through ~ #1969 (last documented one) during that time. Got this from the original owner. Was in his garage for years. I took it to a guitar shop in Los Angeles, California to get it repaired. Wasn??t much damage besides some cracking in the back. Got those repaired. Had tuners cleaned and greased. Repairs are shown in pictures. I??m not sure what has been replaced besides the pick guards and maybe the bridge? 1972 Martin D35 in beautiful natural finish (the perfect natural yellow!). Has signs of play wear including but not limited to dings and scratches to the top so please inspect the photos. Incredible warm tone, nice bass but not boomy, clear articulate highs but still very smooth in the high end, no harshness. Great set up with low action. Its not everyday a 99 year old Martin 00028 walks into the shop so we are excited to welcome this one into the fold.
