Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Pickguard. This might be correct for some other models made by Kay. Numerous fine play scratches (please see photos). A few deeper scratches. One tiny red mark that might be from a Sharpie. Do not see any obvious cracks. Color is slightly more toward beige / cream than the way it looks in the photos (very common with Kay plastics). Up for grabs is a classic piece of guitar history: a electric guitar that we??ve been told is a Kay Vanguard. This is a single pickup guitar in red that plays well but obviously has some marks from age on it. It comes with a chipboard case.

The Kay logo is missing from the headstock, and like all vintage guitars this will need a bit of setup

Here's a really cool Kay Vanguard II from 1965 (pots are dated) that comes with the original case. In overall good condition with the expected bumps and scratches, but nothing major. I've owned this almost 20 years and I am the second owner. Everything on this guitar is original. Both pickups and all electronics work and sound great. These guitars were not grounded to the bridge, so there is some ground noise when not being played. The original owner ran a small wire from the jack to the bridge ... more

Kay Vanguard guitar early 60s vintage old kraftsman pretty much all there and functioning I took it apart cleaned the pots in the front pickup volume does not work so I'm guessing the front pickup volume pot needs to be replaced bridge is intact except for the tremolo arm frets show discoloration from the strings however not gouged they are worn however this guitar was played very cool old guitar I would keep it but I've got another one almost exactly like it

Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Pancake Pickup. Has been tested and sounds great. Many Kay models use this same pickup. This is from the bridge position but can also be used in the neck or middle position. Numerous fine play scratches (please see photos). A few deeper scratches. Kay Vanguard Truetone 1960s. This guitar sounds and plays good. All original with the exception of two extra pots that were added to the pickguard. They are not hooked up. The two bottom knobs are dummy knobs just to fill the holes that were added. This was just rewired properly with one volume and one tone. The original pancake pickup was broken so I had my luthier replace it with a Gibson Mini-Humbucker, but used the original pancake pickup cover. A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
I have given the neck a partial respray using nitrocellulose lacquer and replaced the headstock ... more
