1923 Gibson "The Gibson" Model L-1. I purchased this guitar years ago as a Vintage Gibson Collector. This guitar was owned by the fantastic musician M Ward and was used on various recordings on his early albums. This is one of the best, playable Gibson L-1 guitars I have ever seen. Vintage 1930s Kalamazoo KG-31 archtop acoustic guitar made by Gibson. This1930s KG-31 is all original except for the pickguard and the pickguard hardware. The old Kluson tuners work pretty well considering their age. The Brazilian rosewood bridge is set as low as it will go, but despite the low bridge height, the string action at the 12th fret is fast enough that the guitar is very comfortable to play all the way up the neck

I am a guitar player, and have done much research on this vintage Kalamazoo archtop, manufactured by Gibson. My research shows that this is most likely a model KG-11, specs below. It was an estate sale find, and has the level of wear to be expected from a late 1930s instrument. To avoid harming vintage value, I have done very little ??fix-up, ?? aside from a good polish (Kolstein Instrument Polish) and a restring with light electric strings for play-testing, to avoid undue stress on the neck. Paperwork that came with this ??pre-war?? beauty, identifies its former owner as Richard Jansen, a student and protege of Johnny Smith and side man for folks like Carrol Kaye, Bill Withers, Grover Washington, and others. I have been unable to find out more about Richard and his career
