Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Pancake Pickup. Has been tested and sounds great. Many Kay models use this same pickup. This is from the bridge position but can also be used in the neck or middle position. Numerous fine play scratches (please see photos). A few deeper scratches. Here it is folks!! Here??s that bridge cover for your Silvertone 1413 that you??ve been looking for all those years to complete your restoration. Check out the pictures. It??s in very good shape, near excellent. The arrows are looking pretty nice too. No rust or pitting. Comes with two mounting screws. Plays well. Sounds great. Plenty of expected cosmetic wear expected with a 60-year-old instrument; rust and patina on metal surfaces, wear in the finish, dings and scuffs, some light fret wear in 1st position. It's missing a couple pickguard screws and the 5th string tuner ferrule. The truss cover screws are aftermarket. The neck is relatively straight, but there's a little fret-out around the 12th fret on the 5th and 6th string. See video. Electronics are clean. Tuners are smooth. Action is ... more

Kay Vanguard Truetone 1960s. This guitar sounds and plays good. All original with the exception of two extra pots that were added to the pickguard. They are not hooked up. The two bottom knobs are dummy knobs just to fill the holes that were added. This was just rewired properly with one volume and one tone. Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Pickguard. This might be correct for some other models made by Kay. Numerous fine play scratches (please see photos). A few deeper scratches. One tiny red mark that might be from a Sharpie. Do not see any obvious cracks. Color is slightly more toward beige / cream than the way it looks in the photos (very common with Kay plastics). A very cool find, 1960s Silvertone badged Kay Vanguard II which has been modded and refretted. Plays great, rich resonant tone and sustain and stays in tune too When I got this it was pretty sad, frets filed flat slipping / missing tuners and a tremolo that knocked the strings out of tune when you even looked at it. And the nitro finish flaking and peeling off the neck every time you touched it
I have given the neck a partial respray using nitrocellulose lacquer and replaced the headstock ... more
