What I have here is a Hofner Fretless bass I purchased in1971 from a friend. I have had it on display hanging and intermittent playing.
It is a rare closeto original Hofner fretless model bass. Unconfirmed one of 100ish made in Blond / Naturaland only a few in a Fretless version. Most likely a custom ordered bass whichis even more rare.

Really good shape for it's age with minor wear electronics have been gone through and it's been setup. 30" scale length. One of the earliest basses to have a preamp and the sounds are very usable. Roy Estrada used to play one of these in the Mothers of Invention that Frank Zappa owned. All around an amazing find and a joy to play, no functional issues.... more

This is a 1968 Hofner 500 / 1 bass that has a mix of features from a 500 / 1 and a 5000 / 1 Deluxe. It was most likely a custom order. The color and style of wood, the tortoise shell pickguard, and tortoise shell control plate are consistent with a 5000 / 1 Deluxe. The rest of the bass has typical features of a 500 / 1. The original hard shell case is included and is in rough condition. The trussrod cover and input jack have been replaced with parts from a 1967 Hofner 500 / 1 violin bass

This is a nice Hofner copy of the Beatle Bass Paul used. We believe it to be a Univox or Teisco 1960's. Electronics all work however the tone just has a little static noise when you turn it volume works great and so does the tone other than that drop of static while turning (probably a very good electronics cleaning is in order). This is a nice 1970s Hofner Strat Electric Guitar (Made in German). I have seen the model listed as 170. It includes the original chipboard case that is well used / fair condition. The neck is straight and all pickups were tested and are working. The guitar has been sitting for years (if not decades) so it would benefit from the electronics being dusted off. Surprisingly clean example of a '60s (or '70s?) Japanese viola bass. The action gets high as you go up the fretboard despite the saddles being bottomed out. Neck looks straight. I gave the truss a little turn in each direction but was wary of going too far. Not sure whether it needs a neck reset, shim, or to just have the bridge filed down. Frets are excellent. HISTORY:
The 500 / 1 bass was conceived in 1955 by Hofner Co. president Walter Hofner who believed a violin shaped bass would be easy to manufacturer along side of his existing double bass production line. It featured a symmetrical violin style design, was very light weight, had good playability and a was offered at a reasonable price. The 500 / 1 was unveiled in 1956 at the Frankfurt Music Fair however, ironically, was not made available in the UK until 1963 when it was imported for the ... more

This pickup has been checked with a multimeter for DC resistance. The DC resistance figure can be seen in the photos as well as the overall condition of the pickup. There are no mounting screws or springs included, only the pickup as seen. I also attached the leads to the end of an instrument cable and tapped with a metallic object and the sound came through the amplifier.

Original Selmer case for Hofner Guitar, Mid-Late 50's. Not sure which model Hofner guitar, but the measurements are 43" long, 17" across and 4 1 / 2" deep. Case has Tolex wear on rear bout, both top and bottom, and a few spots elsewhere, but overall for it's age not too bad. All latches work, original handle. There were a few areas where the wood seam was separating, I was able to repair them with Wood glue and clamps, problem solved. No more separation in the seams.... more

For sale this very rare 1957 500 / 5 , with the oval tone plate . Both rosewood pickups have been rewound and it has a refret from an excellent luthier. Original pots which are date stamped . It is in very good condition for its considerable age and has its original winter case

For 60 years of age it is in remarkable condition. There are some scratches, in fact quite a few all around the body. Cosmetic and with the nicely darkened laquer they give the instrnent this wonderfull patina. Around the side srew of the pick guard is a little touched up area and on the backside bottom edge where the ornamentel inlay ends is a tiny patch of dopped out laquer. This was the 40th Hofner Committee to be imported into the UK (serial number 2040) the body is pencil dated 20 10 1953. It has been confirmed as being either a late 1953 or early 1954 import.
Sadly this was part of my dad??s proud collection but unfortunately I??m a left halthough a tough decision, it would be a shame for me to keep it, especially as it is a very playable guitar with great action and tone. This is a 1957 Hofner Congress. This is a stunning looking, vintage guitar. The guitar has the serial number 4853 which dates is to 1957 (Serial number range 4718 - 5808)
The guitar is a fully hollow archtop that has been retrofitted with pickups. I believe these were a factory add on option. The pickups currently do not work properly, this is probably down to a simple wiring issue but I don't have the patience for re-writing hollow body guitars myself

Neck has slight relief , low action .

Rare vintage Höfner Colorama solid body guitar with one original 1960s Humbucker in the neck position. The guitar was refinished pink at some point before I had it. It??s been on a non-smoking studio wall for the last four years, with regular maintenance and care. The neck is one of the best and playing I?ve ever tried. Sounds raw and spanky, a great instrument for garage rock / blues or punk. Some minor discolouration on the pick guard around the pots, only visible with light reflection.... more
