Vintage guitars for sale: kay guitar

Travel back in time with this cool old guitar. It was definitely made by the late, great Kay Musical Instrument Company in Chicago, Illinois. I studied old Kay catalogs from the 1950s and 1960s and could not find this exact model. It's similar to the Kay Double Cutaway. The headstock logo badge is missing. I suspect Kay made it for one of the department stores like Montgomery Ward. Perhaps it was once branded Airline or something

This is an unusual and rare large jumbo flat-top acoustic guitar with a 17" wide lower bout, from the 1940s to 1950s. This guitar was most likely made by Kay.
I am not sure exactly the age. The construction is consistent with guitars I've handled in that period. It has a solid spruce top and sunburst pattern on the back. It has a fairly long scale at 25 3 / 4" with a nut size of 1 11 / 16 " .

This is a 1950s Kay K1 jumbo archtop cutaway guitar. Its jumbo body measures 17 25" wide at the lower bout. It has a solid spruce top and bottom, and ply sides. The maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays, featuring double dot inlays at the 5th, 9th and 15th frets.
The four-part binding is along the top and bottom edges of the body. The neck also has binding around its edge of the fingerboard. There is minor lifting of the binding in one small area as seen in the pictures. The ... more

Here is an all original 1950??s Kay Sizzler guitar. It??s in nice playing condition and the pickup sounds great. It comes with the original case also which is in good shape. Handle is broken on it. Guitar also comes with the original rope strap that would have come with the guitar back in the 1950??s. The original tuner buttons have crumbled but the original tuners still work well. This is a cool country finger picking guitar. The action is high past the 5th fret and would be a good candidate for a neck reset if you wish to play above the 5th fret and the saddle is low. Other than that, it's a solid guitar. This guitar plays but its not easy and it's one that really makes you think about which chord and what note you wish to play because it's tough to play. Vintage Harmony ? / Kay ? Cherry Sunburst ??Double Dove?? Acoustic Guitar. Not sure of the exact age but I believe it??s from the late 60s or early 70s. The tuners were changed out at some point in its life - I assume it had the old 3 on a strip tuners originally.

This is a blast from the past. It??s a 60??s parlor style guitar with a music note painted-on pick guard. This one came to me bowed-in and unplayable because the action was too low. I performed surgery on it and replaced / repaired the braces to give the soundboard its original shape. It now has perfect action and plays with a sweet sound that reminds you of the dirty thirties.

Up for sale is this 1940s - 1950s American-made Kay Super Grand Auditorium flat-top acoustic guitar. I am not 100% sure of the age, but there are a couple of things that point me to this being from the 1940s or 1950s. First, it has 7 / 32" pearl dot inlays, which were used up to about the 1950s or earlier. Second, it doesn't have a truss rod, which was more standard for instruments starting around 1950.

Exceptionally clean early / mid-50s Kay all mahogany archtop (laminates). All original parts except for bridge base. Strong glossy finish throughout. Very small gap at heel (barely fits a business card), but joint is rock solid and angle is just fine. More like a little creep over the decades, or some difference in shrinkage and expansion between the different pieces of wood. Kansas parlour style guitar built under license from Kay in Romania some time between 1958 and 1964 (I believe). The condition is incredibly good considering the age. There are small marks around the edges of the sides and front / back join - where the binding would be - but otherwise it looks fantastic. There is no wear to any of the frets and the do not look to have been replaced - there is some overspray still visible on the zero fret.
