The story of this one is unclear. Family thinks my grandfather bought it at a pawn shop on the east coast in the 70s / 80s. My uncle played guitar, but don't think he really used it

Travel back in time with this cool old guitar. It was definitely made by the late, great Kay Musical Instrument Company in Chicago, Illinois. I studied old Kay catalogs from the 1950s and 1960s and could not find this exact model. It's similar to the Kay Double Cutaway. The headstock logo badge is missing. I suspect Kay made it for one of the department stores like Montgomery Ward. Perhaps it was once branded Airline or something

This is a great little guitar ! It is a 1962 Gibson Music Maker "double cut away" in excellent-mint condition. Just a few very small pick scratches on the surface keeps it from being mint. It is the very desirable double pickup model. The serial number is 528XX which puts it early to mid year 1962 production. The pots are dated 134-6148 for the 48th week of 1961. Really fun guitar from the Matsumoku factory. Two single-coils, floating adjustable bridge with thumbwheels, Bigsby-style trem, bound neck. Works great up til the 17th fret, at which point it starts to fret out. That will need to be addressed if you plan to play that high. The 3rd and 6th string tuners are missing the ferrules. These guitars are magical. The p90 is the best one I ever heard. Frets are original and still payable but if your going to tour with this I would refrett. I believe the "Kustom by Ross" brand was only used from 1966 until 1968 when it was renamed "Kustom Electronics " . Here we have a well-preserved Junior from 1960. This double cut version is in very good condition overall with a vibrant cherry red finish that is unfaded. The guitar appears to have been stored for most of its life as the hardware and parts shine like new. The finish is glossy-new in a way, but the guitar does show buckle wear and long faint scratches on its surface. It looks like someone gigged the guitar a handful of times, but then just put it away forever

It has been professionally set-up by Andrew Hackett of Angel Music Guitars and recently had the electrics checked by Denmark Street luthier Andy Gibson.
